Santa Clara

Santa Clara is located in the heart of Silicon Valley. Founded in 1777 and incorporated in 1852, Santa Clara is the site of the eighth of 21 California missions, Mission Santa Clara de Asis. Santa Clara was later named after this mission and it’s patron Saint, Saint Clair. Today the Mission and Mission Gardens are located on the grounds of Santa Clara University, California’s oldest higher leaning institution.

Santa Clara is home to some of Silicon Valley’s leading tech companies. McAfee, Nvidia, Sun Microsystems and Agilent Technologies are all headquartered in Santa Clara. The San Francisco 49ers are also headquartered in Santa Clara and hold their practices and day-to-day operations there. Currently there is tug-of-war between San Francisco and Santa Clara to see where the future home of the 49ers will be.

Being one of the older cities in the area, Santa Clara homes are typically smaller than homes in other Bay Area communities. Some though, have larger yards and fruit trees, which was the style when many of the first Santa Clara neighborhoods were developed. Lately, an abundance of modern townhouses and condominium complexes in Santa Clara with all the amenities have become the norm. A lot of first time homebuyers choose Santa Clara because of the affordable housing options and relative ease of commute to other Bay Area cities.
